SW Engineer, Traffic Protection Analyst

Traffic Protection team is focused on exploiting data to optimize Yahoo's traffic quality by detecting low quality traffic and implementing solutions against potential misuse and fraud scenarios. Join us in performing heuristical and statistical analysis of traffic and behavioral patterns, and building models, utilizing machine learning techniques. Come and help us make our search advertising platform even better. We’re looking for people with excellent analytical skills to support and drive Yahoo's efforts in continuing to improve our marketplace. The ideal candidate has strong background in quantitative analytical and statistical methods, experience in applying those skills to define business solutions and solid technical expertise. Experience in analyzing access and usage patterns of search-based services is a plus. You will be involved in a broad range of activities, including internet behavior pattern analysis, experimental design, large-scale data mining and data processing, and performance optimization.

Skills/Requirements:
Strong background in data mining and data modeling
Good analytical skills
Hands-on working experience with hadoop, pig, map reduce and related technologies
Experience with large databases, security, internet traffic or related fields
Well versed with scalability issues
Fantastic engineering skills; very strong coding skills in (java, python, sql, pig, c/c++)
BS or MS degree in Statistics, Computer Science or relevant fields
B.E. in engineering or related areas with 5 years of experience
Master's or equivalent with 3 years of experience
PhD or equivalent with 2 years of experience
Strong communication skills
Ability to convene people and convey, convince or influence the solutions and vision
Experienced with software lifecycle development process
Functions/Responsibilites:
Develop and implement methods for analyzing significant data volumes for discovering low quality traffic
Formulate hypothesis about traffic quality, test and validate them
Design metrics for traffic characterizations and implement them
Present the results to Traffic Quality teams
Partner with the engineering team for implementation
