In this critical role, you'll utilize your rare combination of significant UNIX systems experience, network knowledge, troubleshooting skills, and coding sensibilities to design, deploy, monitor, and automate all operational aspects of Yahoo!'s revenue-critical search and advertising platforms. The ideal candidate is a technical generalist with skills ranging from production systems/network management to software development.

Skills/Requirements:
10+ years experience with Linux (RHEL a plus) or FreeBSD
5+ years experience architecting, engineering, deploying, administering & maintaining large-scale, highly available installations (ISP background a plus)
Data warehousing, business analytics, OLAP, data mining systems development experience
Extensive software engineering experience, including demonstrated software/systems architect experience
Strong troubleshooting and problem solving skills, including application and network-level troubleshooting ability
Demonstrable leadership skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Experience working with geographically distributed development teams
BS Computer Science
Strong programming skills in one or more of: C, Perl, Python, Ruby
Experience with SQL and commonly deployed database systems (Oracle, MySQL)
MSCS/MSEE or equivalent experience preferred
Project Management expertise a plus
Experience with ITIL/ITSM best practices
Functions/Responsibilites:
Gain in-depth application-level knowledge of the systems, with an eye towards operationally-focused improvements in overall design and implementation
Drive operability, scalability, stability and serviceability into the core of the architecture of current and new systems
Evaluate application environments and support practices, propose and develop process and/or system/tools enhancements to improve sustainable operational rhythm necessary to ensure high availability of production systems
Function as the Service Engineering architect for the Advertising Analytics and Reporting systems
Develop tools to automate the deployment, administration, and monitoring of large-scale Linux environments
Assist in capacity planning, systems operability assessments, SLA definition, staff modeling & planning
Participate in and lead planning sessions with senior development, QA & SE staff, defining/documenting scope of work for on-boarding new systems and/or upgrading current systems
